Travel Guide



Tangier or Tanger is an important city in Morocco  and  really fascinating city to visit. Tangier  is  a great mix of  Africa and Europe, west and east. Not so far from Spain  by the  20 miles to the  Strait of Gibraltar. This city has  everything  for travelers to love it – interesting history, nice places to visit, beautiful beaches and friendly people. Its history is rich due to the presence of  many  different  civilization  and  cultures. In Tangier is worth to visit the Boulevard , the beach area Playa, the port Marsa, the hilly  area California  with Golf Course   and  Race Track. Walking around  Tangier  you can find  a  market of  cheap things “casa baraka” where you  can buy  almost everything  everyone  can think of (clothing , electronics, vegetables, spices, shoes,  carpets  , etc.). There are other  markets in the  city  such as  souk  in the  medina  ( men  and  women  clothing  is possible to buy here for  reasonable prices) and  in Ben Mekada (  vegetables  can be had  there). Tangier  is the city   which is visited by many outstanding writers of 20th century such as  Paul Bowles,  William  S. Burroughs,  Allen  Ginsberg,  Jack Kerouac, Tennessee  Williams,  Brion Gysin.

Transport
Tangier's  airport is located 12 km  from the city  so it's possible to  take a taxi   to get  in Tangier. The country has  excellent  railway system  so you can take  a train to  go to the city too. Tangier has also two long distance bus stations, one of them is located near the port  and it's  the arrival point of  most buses of CTM company. Some other buses  of this  company  and  buses  of other companies  arrive at the  station  on Place  Jamia el-Arabia.  The port in Tangier is locates  in the Medina   not far  from  ville  nouvelle. The  taxi rank is inside the port area  , so you can take the taxi  which you have agreed a fare with. There  are many fast hydrofoils daily from Tarifa  in Spain. Several times  a  day there are  also fast Balearia ferries Algeciras, Spain to the  new Tangeir-Med Port.

Eat and drink
There are many choices of different cuisine in Tangeir. There are  also many different restaurants  along the Ave Mohamed VI  where you can find   nice meal. Next to the bus station there is  a  plaza with  several cafes  and  restaurants because of the  competition the prices  and  services  are good  here. In the  Medina  there are numerous  Moroccan restaurants  which offer  national dishes. In the port  there are  seafood  restaurants, here  there are  no menus  or  prices  but  usually  dishes are not expensive. Many cafes  and  bars  on the beachfront   propose snacks for visitors.  You can also have  a  snack  in the  street ,  stalls in the  souk  sell  cooked vegetables , rice , sandwiches  and other  tasty  things.   There are  many places to drink in Tangier  There are  dozen  cafes  and  bars  which can propose  different kinds of  drink .  During  the summer months  in the  street vendors  you can buy   fruit juices fresh or  mixed  with milk.

What To Do
The first  thing which is worth to do in Tangier  is to walk along the Ave Mohamed  VI  enjoying the  nice view. Ave Mohamed V has a whole range of clothes shops, pharmacies and cafes as well as Hotel Flandria, Hotel Rembrandt.Mohamed VI runs along the beach front where you will find numerous hotels , bars, discos, restaurants and cafes. Most hostels are situated on the roads heading uphill near the port area.
The Kasbah Museum is Sultan's palace  with  wonderful building and  nice  garden. Here there is a collection of artifacts from the Phoenician to modern times.
Teatro Cervantes  is closed  and falling into pieces  but you can see it passing by  the gates  and   there is a possibility to take  photos  near it.
The Tangier American Legation Museum is  a  museum, conference center and library in one place  in the heart of the old medina in Tangier, is the only historic landmark of the United States located abroad. Here is a big  collection of art and historical items
