Travel Guide

Ouarzazate is small and quiet town, built mostly along main street : Avenue Muhammed V. featured by its closeness to Atlas Mountains and Draa Valley. The town is hot and dry in summer, but can be very cold in winter, with icy winds that originate from the High Atlas Mountains. The casbah-town of Ait Benhaddou is nearby  and many excursions through the valley of the Draa River into the Sahara start from Ouarzazate. The city is also famous by the film studios in which were filmed many movies.many movies.

Transport
Buses from Inezgane (it’s close to Agadir) go to Ouarzazate twice a day.
There are two CTM buses a day from Marrakesh
From Casablanca to Ouarzazate there are  two flights a week.
You can take petits taxis  to get you from airport to your hotel  and rent a car  to get around the town.


What To Do
Walk along the central square behind Muhammad V at night when everyone comes out. The kids go out to play football on the square, people go eat, and you'll get a feel for the community just walking around.
You can go to Atlas Studios it’s about 4 km from the centre of the town, there  Asterix & Obelix was shot. Egyptians decorations are still there  and they are  really impressive.
Ourzazate is the last big town in the south where this is easy and cheap to have a trek to  Sahara, there are lots of agencies around that can arrange something like this  for you. Local agencies also offer trips to mountain valley of Dades.
You can go to Zagora from here, an oasis town surrounded by palm tree plantations, and the traditional departure point for camel caravans to Timbuktu
In Ouarzazate, there is souk and some local stores. In the  center,  two shops with fixed prices,where you can by alcohol including judeo-berber vodka and local wine.
A lot of cheap restaurants are along Mohammad V street and in central square near market.
Plenty of hotels of all ranges are  around the town.
Taourirt Kasbah with the old palace and the old jewish quarter.
Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, the background of gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, the Jewel of the Nile and many others.
kelaa of megouna, the valley's finest rose gardens.
The Ziz valley, the road to the desert.
