TOPIC: Car Parking

Car Parking 5 years, 3 months ago #942

I'm portuguese and planning on visit Morocco next week. Since I didn't manage to book a flight I'm considering going by car.
My main concern is if it is safe to leave a license plated portuguese car parked in the streets by night since I don't do that in Spain for security reasons (portuguese cars tend to be robbed).
Can anyone give me an opinion on that, please?

Oi,

Thank you for posting on MagicMorocco
I dont think your car will be at risk in Morocco, even if the plate number was martian! unless you parked somewhere safe where most people do.
Look mate, its all about common sense, you park where it is safe like other people do, not thawed alone at the top of a hill somewhere in casablanca or marrakech, and regarding your portuguese car, in Morocco your find cars plated from all over the world. so, take your valuable things with you when leaving your car and park where it is safe in a parking space.

Enjoy your trip
obrigado

Olá!

I'm back from Morocco! I took the car and I don't regret it! Next time I go there (yes! there will be definitively a second, third... time) I will take the car again. The roads are better than in Portugal, they have less traffic and there's no problem parking. I never felt unsafe or worried about the car. Whenever I wanted to park I always found a nice place with a "gardian".
The only problem with taking the car is the bureaucracy you need to face in order to get all the needed documents (territorial extension of the insurance - this was easy - and, if the car isn't in the name of the driver (brother's car, ALDs, renting, leasing,...), a letter of the owner allowing the car to go to Morocco and other people to drive it, this letter has to be also signed by an attorney and stamped by the Moroccan embassy). I managed to get all the documents in one day but I think it was a world record. In Portugal the Moroccan embassy is very efficient and receives the papers in the morning and returns them authenticated in the afternoon, it costs 10 eur each paper.

Thank you very much!
