Making choices 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Family of four travelling to Morocco for 20 days. Will be landing in Casablanca. My idea is to start with cities like Rabat, Meknes and Fès for 5 days travelling by bus or train. After, we wish to travel to Marrakech (Train) and spend a couple of days before heading to Ouarzazate. Here's my problem. Which way should we take: Merzouga or Zagora? We have 5 to 7 days. What about transportation to visit sites with my kids(13 and 15)? Wish to travel to Essaouira. Should we travel by Taroudant and Agadir and up the cost or strait from Marakech to Essaouira. What means of transportation should we use ?

Please give advice to spend a great time and see the best stuff !!!

My husband and I just got back from 2 weeks visiting all over Morocco, for our 50th anniversary(lived in Maroc 50 years ago when husband was in Air Force) We landed in Rabat, took the train to CAsablanca and then joined a tour. (Best bet!) Cheapest way to see the country and you'll have an experienced English speaking person with you the whole time. Your kids would love Ouarzazate because the Atlas film studios are there and you can get in very cheaply. Also, being with a guide you can find out all about the places you are seeing. On the way to Fez are the Roman ruins of Volubilis (not to be missed)! Not a good idea to visit the medinas in Fez or Marrakesh alone, only because everyone stops you to try to sell you things. It's very safe and the people are fabulous! You have to go through Zagora to the dunes (and if you have time, travel all the way to the desert (another hour or so) and take camel rides. Not a good idea to drive through the cities in a rented car unless you're really brave! The traffic is nuts! Love to hear about your adventures there, any questions I would love to answer you.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. We are going to travel with public transportation (Train and bus lines for long distances) and utilise travel agencies for long guide tours. Once and a while, we while use a large taxi for the day.

Thank you again,

Mark
